5 Essential Security Tips for VPS Owners
With great power comes great responsibility — and owning a VPS means you’re in charge of its security. Here are 5 essential tips to keep your VPS safe.
1. Keep Software Updated
Regularly update your OS, control panel, and applications. Outdated software is a top attack vector.
2. Use Strong Authentication
Disable password logins and use SSH keys where possible. At minimum, enforce strong passwords.
3. Configure a Firewall
Block unused ports and allow only necessary services. Tools like CSF or firewalld simplify this process.
4. Regular Backups
Always have off-server backups ready. See why backups are your best insurance.
5. Monitor Your Server
Use tools like Nagios or Netdata to track performance, load, and suspicious activity.
